Olympus, a world leader in nondestructive testing technologies, has released powerful phased array ultrasound solutions designed to offer efficient inspection options for the detection of wall thickness loss due to corrosion, abrasion, or erosion. These solutions include two new scanners and improved versions of SetupBuilder and MXU 4.2 software for use with the OmniScan phased array flaw detector.
The new MapROVER is a fully automated, motorized 2-axis corrosion mapping scanner. When combined with the HydroFORM phased array corrosion mapping solution, the MapROVER is a powerful tool for C-Scan imaging of remaining wall thickness and mid wall anomalies. Four magnetic wheels are motorized for constant data acquisition up to 147 mm/s, while the motorized raster arm enables a 600 mm scan width travelling at a speed up to 900 mm/s. Touch screen remote control with two joysticks allows jog or constant encoded motion as well as two different choices of complete automatic raster scan patterns.
The new MapSCANNER is a semi-automated 2-axis corrosion inspection scanner. When combined with the HydroFORM or Dual Linear Array (DLA) phased array corrosion mapping solutions, the MapSCANNER is a powerful, efficient tool for C-Scan imaging of remaining wall thickness and mid wall anomalies. With its wide scanning capability and quick indexing system, the MapSCANNER is an ideal scanner for customers requiring a high production rate with a phased array semi-automated corrosion mapping system.
The new OmniScan MXU 4.2 software has a full range of tools and displays for corrosion mapping applications including the new Export C-scan function, which is compatible with third-party software. This new software version also introduces simplified wizards for easy and fast setup and calibration. Additional features include minimum thickness monitoring during inspection, full high-resolution A-scan storage, A-scan synchronization on the interface echo, and amplitude and position C-scan capability for two gates.
By bringing automated and semi-automated phased array solutions into the corrosion inspection market, Olympus has not only introduced a new technology, but also new solutions resulting in inspectors to be more productive and collect higher resolution inspection data.
