The ChainSCANNER™ solution facilitates manual inspection of pipes with outside diameters (OD) ranging from 76 mm to 965 mm (3 to 38 in.) Held by chain links instead of magnetic wheels, the scanner is well suited for weld or corrosion inspection on various material types using ultrasonic testing (UT), time-of-flight diffraction (TOFD), and phased array (PA) technologies.
The scanner offers the possibility for two-axis encoding and can inspect ferromagnetic or nonferromagnetic surfaces. The chain links help ensure a straight displacement of the scanner by eliminating steering problems. It is useful when the area around the pipe is difficult to access, as the scanner can be rotated around the pipe using the chain links.
Applications include:
- Circumferential pipe weld inspections with phased array, TOFD, or conventional UT
- Corrosion mapping of small areas with phased array or conventional UT
Key Features
- Standard configuration using one or two probes and optional configuration using four probes for TOFD, phased array, or pulse-echo inspections
- Inspect pipes with outside diameters ranging from 76 mm to 965 mm (3 in. to 38 in.)
- Encoders for scan and index axes (Index encoder not available on Light model)
- Ergonomic handle providing cable management
- Easy-to-attach chain links mounted on bearing wheels coated with urethane for smooth rolling
- Easy clamping device for quick scanner positioning
- Spring-loaded probe holders help ensure good probe contact in any scanner position or orientation
- Probe holder sliding system enables easy and precise positioning of the probe holders according to the part being inspected
- Most adjustments can be made without the use of tools
- Cable-protection zipper tube system enables quick cable reconfiguration
