In the fast-paced world of R&D, the demands of our customers are diversifying. Many need to conduct iterative development studies that involve repetitive trial and error processes and simultaneous analysis of multiple images. Moreover, the urge to automate mundane tasks like data collection and preliminary analysis, and shift focus to more valuable analytical tasks, is stronger than ever.
This is why we developed the Smart Experiment Manager for our LEXT OLS5100 laser scanning microscope. The Smart Experiment Manager can cater to a variety of experimental verification systems. We recently improved this software to make it even better and more flexible for busy R&D labs. Among the many improvements, three of the most popular are:
- Adaptable support for trial-and-error-based R&D workflows.
- An intuitive interface for instant go/no go tolerance judgments on measurements.
- Automation of standard procedures.
Here are three examples of real challenges faced by our R&D customers and how the Smart Experiment Manager is helping solve them.
1. Dynamic Experiment Condition Modifications
Current Challenge:
In R&D, data is usually acquired under pre-set experimental conditions. If any alteration is needed, you’re faced with the cumbersome task of restarting from scratch—far from efficient for a department that thrives on iterative testing.
Our Solution:
With the OLS5100 microscope and the Smart Experiment Manager, data can be registered into a matrix in real time without setting the conditions in advance. A quick tap on the Quick Data Sorting button is all that’s required. Plus, modifying or adding matrix conditions after data acquisition is easy. Even better, drag and drop features allow for swift data organization, mirroring your workflow.
2. Instant Decision-Making with Tolerance Judgment
Current Challenge:
When defining tolerance thresholds, sifting through each data value individually to determine its adequacy is tedious. An immediate judgement system that enables fast go/no go determinations of many values is needed.
Our Solution:
Our built-in tolerance judgment tool empowers users to pre-set tolerance boundaries. Tolerance data can be visualized in a matrix, and any data that falls within or outside the tolerance limits is flagged. By adjusting the threshold, users can swiftly pinpoint their tolerance ranges.
3. Workflow Automation with the Macro Function
Current Challenge:
Routine workflows and bulk data collection under identical conditions often force users to repetitively set parameters. This not only leaves them stuck at the microscope for long periods, but also results in data discrepancies due to varying operator settings.
Our Solution:
Pairing the macro function with our Smart Experiment Manager results in convenient workflow automation. After setting the macro in motion, you're free to attend to other crucial tasks. This feature helps ensure consistent, efficient data collection and analysis, minimizing operator-induced data variances.
These examples show that the OLS5100 microscope isn’t just a tool—it’s a problem solver, delivering precision, efficiency, and superior data management. Ready to upgrade your R&D workflow? Contact us!
