Olympus NDT is pleased to introduce the Encoded C-scan and Weld Overlay software features for the advanced EPOCH 1000i ultrasonic flaw detector. Encoded C-scan and Weld Overlay are the latest in a series of EPOCH 1000i software enhancements combining the highest level of performance for conventional ultrasound inspection with the power of phased array imaging. The EPOCH 1000i is a portable flaw detector that uses high-frequency ultrasound as a nondestructive inspection technique to detect
internal flaws in metals, composites, and other materials.
Encoded C-scan
Encoded C-scan is a significant enhancement to the EPOCH 1000i. This optional feature enables inspectors to use a variety of encoders or scanners to track the position of the phased array probe along the test area and create a fully encoded C-scan image from a sector or linear scan. The benefit of encoded C-scan technology is that it provides a fast two-dimensional data inspection image that accurately corresponds to the location of the test part. The EPOCH 1000i Encoded C-scan software option
includes the linear scanning capability, and enhances the instrument to a 16:64 pulser-receiver configuration. Key performance features include: timed or encoded C-scan creation, full A-scan storage of compressed A-scans, C-scan creation from sector or linear scans, storage of up to 70 MB of data, and scan resolution down to 1mm (0.040 in.).
The Encoded C-scan feature is ideal for various nondestructive testing applications, including fast zero-degree mapping for inspection of voids, delaminations, disbonds, and corrosion in materials. The feature is also ideal for weld inspection, and crack detection and sizing.
Weld Overlay
The Weld Overlay software is available as a standard feature on the EPOCH 1000i flaw detector. This easy-to-use feature provides a visual reference of the weld profile on the sector or linear scan display, thus enabling the inspector to visualize the relative position of the flaw indications in relation to the weld geometry. The weld centerline can be dynamically positioned with respect to the front of the phased array probe for proper visualization of the weld on the image. Key performance
features include: simple definition of single-V or double-V welds, basic representation of weld geometry over live S-scan or L-scan images, a weld centerline cursor for live adjustment of the weld position on the image, and adjustable weld color and shading for vivid graphical representation.
