Applications
Plastic and Containers45MG ultrasonic thickness gauges with Single Element software can nondestructively measure the material wall thickness of plastics and containers for critical applications in many manufacturing industries. For instance, if a material is too thin, it may fail in use. If it is too thick, the manufacturer could waste money on excess resin. Measurements take only a few seconds each and can be recorded on gauge dataloggers for documentation and analysis. Nodularity in Cast Iron / Elastic ModulusFor quick and nondestructive evaluation of iron casting (made by mixing carbon, silicon, and other additives into molten iron), the preferred method is ultrasonic testing. The 45MG thickness gauge with Single Element software can provide a direct readout of sound velocity in cast iron and other materials based on an entered thickness. In addition, computations (Young's modulus and shear modulus of elasticity, and Poisson's ratio) based on measured sound velocities and material density using the 45MG gauge can determine homogenous, isotropic, nondispersive materials. This includes common metals, industrial ceramics, and rigid plastics such as polystyrene and acrylic. Related Content:Measuring Nodularity in Cast Iron |
Gun DrillingGun drilling is the process of drilling a hole along the center axis of a solid rod or bar that has a known outside diameter. It is important in the gun drilling process to monitor the position of the drilled hole to ensure that drifting has not taken place. The 45MG instrument (with Single Element software) can measure and provide the wall thickness information required to help ensure that the gun drilled hole is within concentricity specifications.
