Important Announcement for the SZ-FLR ESD Fluorescent Ring Illuminator for Stereo Zoom Microscopes Users

Thank you very much for your continuous business with us.

It has been discovered that the SZ-FLR ESD fluorescent ring illuminator for stereo zoom microscopes may cause electric shock due to leakage current if not grounded properly, although this is a very rare occurrence.

We have been providing inspection and free repair services for this product since 2006. However, since 17 years have passed since we discontinued sales of this product and the maintenance period has also expired, we are sorry to inform you that we will no longer be providing this service.

To ensure safety, customers using the affected products are requested to dispose them.
As of today, there have been no accidents involving electric shock because of this incident.

We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders. We will make further efforts to prevent this from happening in the future and will take all possible measures for quality control.

Affected Products

Fluorescent ring illuminator for stereo zoom microscopes (Electro-Static Discharge)
SZ-FLR100ESD (All products manufactured between November 1998 and February 2006)
SZ-FLR115ESD (All products manufactured between April 2003 and February 2006)

The following products are not affected:

  1. SZ-FLR115ESD which the rated frequency is shown as 60Hz (see pictures below).
  2. Products with a black dot mark under the name plate (safety of products with this mark has already been confirmed through inspection and repair, see diagram below).
  3. Products with names that do not include the ESD suffix (SZ-FLR100, SZ-FLR115, SZ-FLR220 and SZ-FLR240, which are structured differently).
  4. SZ-FLR220ESD and SZ-FLR240ESD (which are structured differently).

Cause and Description of Fault

Due to some defects in the manufacturing process, leakage current may occur between the power supply unit and the lamphouse in very rare cases. If the product is used without grounding, there is a risk of electric shock. In case the product is properly grounded, the ground-fault breaker installed on the premises may trip, but there is no risk of electric shock.

Request to Customers

Customers using the affected products are requested to dispose of them safely.
